General Advice
|
1. |
We have watered
your plants prior to delivery and packed them with care so that they
reach you in prime condition. |
|
2. |
It is important
that you unpack the plants immediately on receipt and water them
thoroughly. |
|
3. |
The foliage and
stems will settle back into their natural positions as you move the
pots about. |
|
4. |
Put your new plants
into their permanent positions as soon as possible. See the advice
below. If there has to be a delay, stand the pots in a shaded
position, sheltered from strong wind and ensure that they are
thoroughly watered at least every day. |
|
5. |
When you are ready
to plant, ensure all your preparation has been done. The soil must
be weed free. |
|
6. |
Always place your
plants on the soil before planting this will help you plant out your
garden. Look at the eventual spread and height of the plant when
preparing where to plant. Also look at the colours to ensure even
distribution. |
|
7. |
Prepare a hole
slightly bigger than the pot size, this way you can plant your shrub
and the roots of the plants are not disturbed. |
|
8. |
Ideally scatter
some slow release fertiliser into the hole before planting, and then
again on top of the soil. |
|
9. |
Water the plant to
settle the soil around its roots, even if the soil is already damp. |
|
10. |
It is most
important that your new plant is not allowed to dry out whilst it is
getting established. You will need to water daily in warm or dry
weather. |
|
11. |
If there are high
winds check that the plant is not rocking and firm the soil again if
necessary. |
Hedging Advice
|
|
Choose a hedge
that you will be happy with in the long run and are able to
maintain. Leylandii is quick and instant screening, but from this
the growth will need to be maintained. Ensure you are able to trim
this hedge as often as required. |
|
|
Decide whether
you want the screening all year round, or would you prefer the
screening just through the spring/summer months when you use your
garden the most. |
Good Luck!
